Portsmouth City Council - the ‘Council’ - has awarded a Contract for the provision of a befriending service to assist vulnerable Adults, who are essentially housebound, by providing them with social contact through volunteer visitors/befrienders. Where appropriate, volunteers may be willing to undertake low level household tasks to assist the client, for instance; form filling, changing light bulbs or posting letters. This assistance will be on a voluntary basis, and will not form part of the commissioned service.
The service will also seek to act as advocate for the client, signposting to or working with appropriate agencies where the client is experiencing difficulties that could affect their independence. The service will not provide personal or nursing care services. The selected provider will actively recruit volunteers to act as volunteer befrienders.
The contract commenced on 1.10.2014 and will run for an initial term of 4 years, but is extendable in increments to be agreed to a total maximum duration of 6 years, subject to agreement and performance of both parties.
The value of the contract is approximately 100 000 GBP per annum making a total maximum contract value of 600 000 GBP if the extension options are taken up in full.
