Suffolk Constabulary is lead authority for nine police forces for the purchase of body armour under an existing national framework agreement. The collaborative contract previously competed for these nine forces under this framework agreement is due to expire on 30 November 2014. The overarching framework agreement will conclude in May 2015 or May 2016 depending on The Metropolitan Police Service placing a further extension. A further mini competition which will include the need for a diverse pattern range of covers to be produced will take approximately four months to conclude for what will give a supplier 12 to 18 month's worth of business and it does not make economic sense in terms of cost to the PCC's or suppliers on the framework agreement. It is also possible that the body armour requirement may be incorporated within the National Uniform Managed Service currently being tendererd, during this potential extension period.
