Storage and warehousing services. Storage and retrieval services. English Heritage Publishing (EHP) publishes books in the fields of archaeology, architectural history and illustrated heritage for professional, academic and adult general interest markets. It is the commercial publishing arm of English Heritage, the government's statutory advisor on the built environment. This contract covers storage, distribution, invoicing and credit collection of these priced publications only.
We require our distributor to receive orders from the book trade under the industry-wide Teleordering system and by other means including email, phone, fax and post, and to supply within credit policies and terms of supply which are reasonable for the markets concerned. The distributor should participate in industry-wide electronic trading and marketing initiatives which are used within the book trade. The largest customers are book wholesalers and retailers within the UK, with a small but increasing number of direct sales to end-users and to the international book trade, mainly to Western Europe and Australia. Bulk delivery of books to the North American distributor are made to their UK shipper every 3-4 weeks, and supplied on a gratis basis. These are invoiced subsequently by English Heritage. Gratis deliveries are also made every 2 weeks to the warehouse supplying English Heritage shops.
The main category of books covered by this tender are titles commissioned by EHP which occupy pages 1- 42 of the 2011 EHP catalogue. These are sold mainly through the book trade, and carry retail prices from GBP 7,99 to GBP 100. There are approximately 150 live titles, and 10 new titles were published in 2010/11. Typical print runs are in the range of 500-2000, although there are specialist print on demand titles which are replenished in quantities as low as 5 on occasion. There is also limited book trade involvement with the guide books to English Heritage properties, although most sales are at EH sites and storage and distribution for these are handled under the current retail warehousing contract.
The business is not highly seasonal, although there are modest peaks in spring at the start of the tourist season, and in the approach to Christmas.
The Contract is due to commence on 1.7.2012 and the contract period will be for 4 years with the option to extend for a further 1 year at the discretion of English Heritage.
As a public body, English Heritage takes a rigorous approach to stock management and requires good control of inventory and regular stock checks. A high level of customer service is required, with efficient collection of payments owed, and good levels of reporting. In our distributor, we seek a business partner who will not only provide these functions effectively with value for money, but using their experience and initiative will work with us to improve and grow our business.
More detailed information about stockholding, business volumes and transactions, the customer base, and copies of the EHP catalogue, will be sent to those who respond to this notice as part of the Prequalification Questionnaire.
