The Agency wishes to commission work to develop guidance that focuses on best practice in relation to providing food to vulnerable patients within NHS hospitals, private hospitals, nursing homes and similar healthcare settings. The guidance will explain why Listeria is a particular risk for vulnerable groups, the extent of the problem, routes of transmission, and focus on the critical control points to consider when providing food for vulnerable patients in hospitals and similar healthcare settings. The guidance will not cover in detail the procurement of food by NHS hospitals, nursing homes, etc. as this is expected to be covered in public sector procurement guidance to be developed through the FSA's Food Hygiene Delivery Programme. However, the guidance should take into account variation in procurement practices in these settings, and potential impact on providing foods to vulnerable people.
