Cumbria County Council is in the final stages of securing a supplier to maximise the coverage of superfast broadband across Cumbria with the aim that at least 90% of properties are able to receive speeds in excess 30 mbps. The project is known as Connecting Cumbria. The contract to provide the infrastructure network is expected to be signed this Autumn, for a roll out commencing in Spring 2013 and finishing by the end of 2014.
Investment in the roll out of a superfast broadband network will be underpinned by this separately tendered, integrated business support programme aimed at stimulating the take up of superfast broadband services and ensuring ERDF eligible small and medium sized enterprises across the county of Cumbria take full advantage of its benefits.
