The new entrance roadway will link from the existing public highway through to the main centre of the campus, approximately 800m in length.
There is currently no roadway in place at the proposed location and the new road will be constructed on brownfield land.
Construction will include all aspects of the roadway and pavement; together with integration of SUDS features and installation of data and electrical infrastructure, street lighting, CCTV, access barriers, soft and hard landscaping.
In addition to being the main arterial route to campus, the roadway is part of a research project, Multi User Environment for Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (MUEAVI): the aim of which is to study autonomous (driverless vehicles) in a semi-controlled urban environment.
In light of this, the road will vary in design, from including a central reservation in sections to the incorporation of features to the road of a roundabout and various junction configurations.
There will also be the creation of entrance plazas and visitor parking at notable locations and buildings as the road progresses through the campus.
Central Car Park:
A central arrival car park is to be constructed as part of the project.
The car park will hold approximately 350 car park spaces; which will include accessible parking bays, electric car charging bays, coach parking bays, motorcycle parking and covered bicycle shelter.
Construction will include the car park area which will incorporate SUDS drainage features in alignment with the overarching SUDS strategy for the University campus.
Installation of column lighting, bollard lighting, CCTV, ANPR barrier system will also be part of the car park specification; together with soft and hard landscaping.
The area of construction will be brownfield site.
