The Leadership in a Shared Society project will deliver a targeted and tailored project of Leadership training skills for the elected and community leaders of the North East council areas. The project will have a cross border element and include inter and intra community and council area collaboration.
The project will involve 3 very distinctive elements: (i) training and learning for elected members, (ii) training and learning for community leaders, (iii) shared training and learning for elected members and community leaders together.
The project will also identify and address any training or capacity building needs of Councillors newly elected into Councils. Participants will engage in training sessions designed to challenge and examine a range of leadership practices for elected and community leaders. 40 elected members and 60 community leaders will take part in the project. Additionally 25 participants from the phase 1 project will be re-engaged for continued dialogue and exploration of issues. The project will involve work at local council level culminating in more collaboration and sharing of experiences at a cross council level. The project will afford both groups a safe space where they have the opportunity and space to talk within their own groupings, whilst later coming together to explore and talk together.
In year 2 the participants (both elected members and community representatives) will work together to develop a Council area based project which demonstrates the skills and capacity they have acquired through participation in the project. Resource allocations of 10 000 GBP for each council area should be included in the tender price to complete the project (60 000 GBP in total). Statutory sector representatives will participate in the development and implementation of projects where appropriate.
The Leadership in a Shared Society will offer an OCN Accredited course.
