Stockport Council intends to develop its preventive services for people with low level mental health issues through ensuring a comprehensive provision of peer groups and supports across the Borough.
The service will link in with current peer support services provided as part of a range of universal general health and wellbeing services and peer support services supported by other mental health providers.
The aims of the service are:
- To develop and oversee a programme of open and closed peer support groups which will support people’s recovery and social inclusion,
- To work with the Mental Health Prevention and Personalisation Service provider to develop circles of support around vulnerable people,
- To support the volunteer team at the current Stockport Wellbeing centre, building on the identified successes of this approach and will seek to expand the model into other community locations.
The Council now wishes to invite tenders from independent and 3rd sector organisations to develop and operate such a service.
